Urtext Film Productions started in 2005 as a group of like minded filmmakers combining their resources to create interesting new films. Five short, and one feature film later, Urtext is now a complete production studio run from the Tattersalls building in the Adelaide CBD. From camera equipment to editing and screening suites, from costume and makeup designers to writers and cinematographers, Urtext is now a fully resourced production house, that not only produces its own work, but supports the production of many of South Australia’s up and coming films.
Urtext’s groundbreaking short, Hole in the Water, was nominated for eight awards at the SA Short Screen Awards. A $1300 film, it competed with other films that had $350,000 budgets. Matthew Salleh, company director and head of production, was awarded the SA Emerging Producer award, and Aaron Schuppan, cinematographer and business partner was awarded the Best Cinematography award, beating out numerous industry veterans with his fresh approach to visual expression.
And with ‘Offside’, our first feature film, Urtext hopes to extend its track record into commercial cinema. Two sell-out screenings at the Mercury Cinema, as part of the Bigpond Adelaide Film Festival (culminating in the biggest attendance ever at the Mercury in its 35 year history) is hopefully an indication of strong things to come.
In 2009, Urtext hopes to apply its creative capabilities and gear it towards commercial and corporate project work. With film projects for Fasta Pasta, Coca-Cola, Cancer Council SA, Adelaide Comedy, and Channel 7, we're off to a good start.
