Film Work

We are currently in production on our third feature documentary: Slice of Life: The American Dream. In Former Pizza Huts. We are traveling throughout the United States, creating a contemporary portrait of America, told through the small businesses who have set up shop in former Pizza Hut restaurants across the country.

This new film carries on our tradition of creating rich mosaics across diverse groups of people, interwoven by compelling and unique portraits.

Our second feature documentary, We Don’t Deserve Dogs, chronicles the unique bond between humans and dogs.

It was selected for over a dozen leading film festivals throughout 2020, including SXSW, Warsaw Film Festival, Nashville Film Festival, and Miami Film Festival GEMS. It was released theatrically and online globally in April 2021, appearing on many recommendation lists (including Washington Post, USA Today, and SF Gate) and topping iTunes Documentary best-selling charts – #1 in Canada, #1 in Australia, #5 in the United States, and #8 in the UK.

Our debut feature documentary, Barbecue, premiered at SXSW 2017, where it was picked up by Netflix for a three year global release. The project saw Matt & Rosie travel to 12 countries, uncovering the mysteries of the universe through the age-old process of cooking meat over fire. Global and cinematic in perspective, grand and daring in scope, the film’s Netflix release brought the film to an audience of over 100 million viewers in 190 countries, and in 20 languages. The film received a prestigious James Beard Award for Best Documentary.

Previously based in Australia, we have produced a number of short documentaries that have played at leading Australian and international film festivals. Pablo’s Villa and Central Texas Barbecue both had world premieres at the Sydney Film Festival in 2013 and 2014 respectively, and were also selected for the Melbourne International Film Festival. Pablo’s Villa has also been selected for international festivals including Slamdance, Montreal World Film Festival, and even screened at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Our films Pablo’s Villa and Please Don’t Rush were nominated for four awards at the 2014 St. Kilda Film Festival, and Pablo’s Villa was also the recipient of the 2013 ATOM Award for Best Australian Short Documentary. Central Texas Barbecue was awarded ‘Best Short Film’ at the New York Food Film Festival.

Commercial Work

Our extensive experience independently producing award winning, world-class documentary films is well suited to the world of commercial filmmaking.

More recently, our focus has been on providing bespoke post-production solutions to a variety of projects. We have extensive experience delivering projects to cinemas, international broadcasters, and leading streaming channels.

We also specialize in creating commercial content with a ‘real people’ focus, bringing an intimately personal and honest voice to the work we do.

Matt & Rosie have won several awards for their work, and enjoy bringing their unique vision to the commercial world. We have worked as a two person team in over 30 countries, in locations as diverse as along the Syrian border and the steppes of Mongolia. Our specialty lies in ‘small footprint’ production in difficult to film places, achieving compelling stories and capturing cinematic images, as we take on the challenges of local filming conditions, cultural sensitivities, and language.

Our key areas of focus are in the culinary, travel, tourism and NGO sectors.

We are fanatics of the latest technology in production, using modern tools to bring an honest and engaging cinematic language to our entire portfolio of work.

We can completely produce content end-to-end, from conception to finished delivery, and also work with larger crews and leading post-houses when the project benefits from a more collaborative approach. We work directly with clients and content providers, and also through more traditional commercial agency structures.
